Botanical Drugs Still in Development!

Great to catch up with long-time Ethnobotany colleague and friend, Steven King, this week.

I’ve known Steven since the days of Shaman Pharmaceuticals and what has since become only the second Botanical Drug approved by the FDA: Fulyzaq, a drug marketed by Salix Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of diarrhea in HIV/AIDS patients who are on anti-retroviral therapy.

Steven is still at it, working to get compounds from Croton lechleri approved for various indications, including IBS, IBD and cancer-related diarrhea through Jaguar Pharmaceuticals.

I feel lucky to have started my career with a group of such bright minds in natural products who have become long-time friends.
