I love the power of a plant cutting!

I love the power of a plant cutting!

Here you can see what happened after only 3 months of growth for these Tree Dahlia (Dahlia imperialis) cuttings! These cuttings were dropped on my doorstep by a neighbor who was cutting back their trees. So, with no rooting hormone or any special treatment other than removing the wilted leaves, I placed them in 5 gal nursery containers with moist potting soil, and I didn’t have to wait long! They are now rooted, flowering and ready for their forever home. Mary Andrews, GISP–Dahlia enthusiast–here they come!

The Bell Tree Dahlia has a native range that extends from Mexico to South America and has many ethnobotanical uses, including foods and as traditional medicine.

If you love plants but don’t want to drain your bank account purchasing them from nurseries, many plants can be reproduced this way. There are many ways to propagate plants, two of the simplest being by seed (sexual reproduction) or plant cuttings (asexual reproduction).
