Kitchen Color Lab- Experiment with Botanical Dyes for Easter Eggs πŸ’š πŸ’™ πŸ’› ❀️ πŸ’œ 🧑 πŸ₯š

This year, instead of reaching for synthetic dyes, try turning your kitchen and garden into a natural color lab for Easter eggs.

From onion skins and red cabbage to turmeric and hibiscus, many everyday plants can create beautiful, earthy hues…and you can push the palette even further by experimenting with ingredients like cayenne pepper, chili powder, red onion skins, and tea to see what unexpected shades emerge.

How about medicinal plants?

There are several that give natural dyes:
Chamomile (soft yellow, yellow/green), Calendula (yellow, greenish/yellow), Lavender (grey-blue), Elderberry (deep purple), Dandelion (light yellow), Goldenrod (bright yellow)… the list goes on!

It’s also possible to add patterns and motifs to your eggs using simple techniques:
➑️ Wrap leaves or flowers against the shell with a piece of stocking to create botanical silhouettes,
➑️ Draw on the eggs with wax or a white crayon before dyeing for a classic resist effect, or
➑️ Selectively dip and re-dip in different dye baths to build layered bands of color.
