Peru holds an extraordinary wealth of “superfood” ingredients, shaped by the biodiversity of the Amazon and the resilience of the high Andes, a treasure trove still waiting for further integration by the wider natural-products market.
Through the EBI Network, we are helping connect interested brands & ingredient buyers with high-quality botanicals & EBI high positive-impact supply partners from India, Peru and Madagascar. A few examples of our Peruvian botanicals include:
Aguaje (Mauritia flexuosa)- Often described as one of the defining fruits of the Peruvian Amazon, aguaje is an edible palm fruit traditionally enjoyed fresh, as beverages, and as oil. Its vivid orange pulp, nutritional profile, and cultural importance make it a compelling ingredient for food, beverage, and personal-care innovation, particularly when linked to the high positive impact of supporting Amazonian communities. Aguaje is one to watch for women’s health, as there is much interest in its phytochemistry for supporting hormonal health.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii)- A high-altitude Andean crop cultivated in Peru’s central Andes, maca has been used for generations as both food and traditional nourishment. Today, its earthy, malt-like character and strong consumer recognition as an adaptogen create opportunities in functional foods, powders, beverages, and vitality-oriented formulations.
Camu Camu (Myrciaria dubia)- A small Amazonian fruit with an exceptionally high natural vitamin C content and a bright, tart flavor profile. It is well suited to functional beverage, food, powder, and beauty-from-within concepts.
Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma)- A golden-fleshed Andean fruit which is a symbol of longevity, with a fantastic tropical flavor, use as a sugar substitute and a high content of beta-carotene, supporting eye and cellular health.
