Sea Holly (Eryngium maritimum) is nature’s way of reminding us that you can’t have it all & some of the most gorgeous things in the garden come with…unexpected features.
At first glance, it’s stunning: all metallic blues and sharp geometry, the kind of plant that looks like it was designed by an architect.
Then it blooms… and suddenly your lovely garden smells like a dog park on a hot afternoon. 🐕 ☀️
But that “unfortunate” fragrance isn’t a flaw, it’s strategy! Sea holly appeals directly to flies and other pollinators who think that aroma is pure perfection.
Evolution, once again, proves itself the ultimate creative director.
So today, a little gratitude: for beauty that makes us laugh & for ecosystems that work in surprising ways. 🪰 💐 🌲 😝
