Few things smell better than that scent of the first rain. We all know that scent, but did you know that it has been artfully captured in the Ayurvedic scent called Mitti Attar?
In the perfume capital of India, Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, they have a centuries old art of capturing and recreating this lush earthy smell. Traditionally, Mitti Attar was produced by artisans who would collect and then distil soil during the first monsoon rains of the season from a special region of the Ganges basin.
While Indians are immersed in Monsoon season currently, I am enjoying my last few drops of Mitti Attar that was gifted to me at Supplyside West by Nisarga Biotech. In Ayurveda it is used for its grounding and calming effect, able to pacify excess Vata. In our quest to find an answer to climate change, I can think of no better aromatherapy to get our human minds attuned to what ails the earth.
