Adaptogenic White Gold Aphrodisiac

Safed Musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) an herb commonly found in patches of forest in India, is an herbaceous perennial with lanceolate leaves, spikes of white flowers and tuberous roots.

Safed Musli is now commonly cultivated—its leaves commonly consumed as a leaf vegetable, and roots with medicinal & culinary applications.

The tuberous roots of Safed Musli have traditionally been used as a “Rasayana”, or tonic herb in Ayurvedic traditional medicine that is used for promoting longevity. It is considered sweet, cooling and mucilaginous, and to increase Kapha and decrease Pitta Doshas.

Beyond its Rasayana categorization, it is considered ‘white gold’ or ‘divya aushad’ and also belongs to a group of medicines “Vajikaran Rasayana”, which refers to its use as an aphrodisiac and rejuvenating sex tonic. Beyond this it is known as an adaptogenic herb to boost vitality, support immunity, for supporting joint health and blood sugar balance.

Safed Musli has long been used for supporting sexual health, and more recent scientific investigations have found aphrodisiac activities, as well as immunomodulator and cell protective activities.

Through scientific investigation, Safed Musli has been found to exhibit antioxidant, cytokine and blood sugar balancing, aphrodisiac, antistress, and immunomodulatory activities.

In one clinical study on its adaptogenic effects, Safed Musli was found to increase performance of healthy volunteers exposed to unaccustomed and accustomed activities, through significant values measured for distance in a 6 -minute walk test, fixed workload and diastolic blood pressure compared to a placebo group.
