Carvacrol

Carvacrol

Important Bioactive From Plants!

Carvacrol  is a monoterpenoid phenol compound found in the essential oil of many  aromatic herbs; notably Oregano, Thyme, Marjoram, Pepperwort, Rosemary,  Lavender, Sage, and Bergamot. It has a pungent flavor and characteristic  scent of Oregano.

Among its possible health benefits:
·     Antioxidant
·     Antimicrobial
·     Anti-inflammatory
·     Pain Relief
·     Cholesterol Levels
·     Blood Sugar Balance
·     Liver Health
·     Cancer
·     Eye Health
·     Cardioprotective
·     Anti-obesity
·     Reproductive Health
·     Immunomodulatory
·     Anti-Aging
·     Neuroprotection

Carvacrol  is a significant essential oil component in many aromatic plants and is  famous for its numerous biological activities. Carvacrol has  demonstrated the potential in mitigating dyslipidemia, as well as  potential in type 2 diabetes, with effects on blood sugar mitigation and  diabetes associated tissue damage. In a new preclinical study, it was  shown to reduce blood lipid and glucose levels, improve tissue damage  and increase SCFA levels in feces, and attenuate high glucose-induced  apoptosis.

This  study also found that its effects on blood lipids and glucose were  possibly from its modulation of short-chain fatty acids and the  modulation of G-protein coupled receptor (GPR) 41/43 pathway.

Once  again, we are finding a significant bioactive to be exerting many  beneficial downstream effects on health through modulation of the gut  microbiome.
