Mexican Traditional Medicine

Mexican Traditional Medicine

Post Series: Global Traditional Medicine Systems

In  order to spread awareness about the rich living herbal traditions from  around the world, this post series will introduce some of the  characteristics of the herbal or traditional medicine systems to which  plants belong.

Mexican  Traditional Medicine encompasses the rich indigenous cultures and  accompanying herbal knowledge and healing practices that make up modern  day Mexico.

This  can include indigenous cultures such as Aztec, Maya and Zapotec, as  well as incorporating Spanish colonial traditions and elements of  European and African influences.

Herbal  remedies are part of the tradition, but there are also ritual and  spiritual healing practices, along with massage, body work, traditional  diets and traditional knowledge.
