Kerry Hughes of Ethnopharm and Olivier BEHRA of Man and the Environment (MATE) and Net Positive Impact (NPI) have formed a partnership in order to promote biodiversity from some of the world’s ‘hottest’ biodiversity hotspots.
Hughes and Behra met in 2005 in Madagascar while Hughes was on ethnobotanical expedition—a market development initiative in Madagascar for non-traditional products. Sharing similar convictions over the importance of the private sector in biodiversity conservation, Behra & Hughes have worked over the years on activities related to the ethical development of Malagasy and African medicinal, essential oil and food plants.
Through NPI activities and partners, deforestation in a key biodiversity area of Madagascar has already not only stopped, but moved towards regeneration, and this has been confirmed independently.
Stay tuned and get ready to hear the true stories of biodiversity hotspots, important sustainable product development opportunities, how people live, the plants they use, and how truly ethical ethnobotany-led development can alleviate and regenerate some of the world’s most important threatened environments…
