Endemic to the Namib Desert, Welwitschia mirabilis only has two leaves that grow continuously over its lifespan, which can be up to 2,000 years.
These leaves can become quite long, often appearing tattered and split as they age. Welwitschia mirabilis primarily obtains moisture from fog that rolls in from the Atlantic Ocean. The leaves are designed to capture and funnel this moisture to the roots.
