With a flavor similar to stewed or dried apples, or kiwifruit (depending on who you talk to), these berries are a popular bushfood for both birds and humans.
The Appleberry (aka. Appleberry; Billardiera scandens) is a small rambling shrub native to Australia which is not very picky about soils or location and can tolerate some frost.
Beyond being hardy in the garden, they are also one of the few plants that can be grown under Eucalyptus.
The fruits can be enjoyed raw or cooked and reach about 2.5 cm long. The fruits are also sometimes called “Apple Dumplings” due to their shape and flavor.
