Hydration from the Desert

Hydration from the Desert

Desert  Date oil, extracted from the seeds of the Balanites aegyptiaca tree, has  been traditionally used for various purposes in traditional medicine,  personal care, as well as a traditional food and cooking oil. In  addition to its medicinal properties, Desert Date oil has several health  benefits.

The seeds of the fruits are used traditionally for  skin health, as it is known to have unique properties that improve  hydration, while not feeling greasy to the touch. Traditionally, it is  not only used for skin hydration and antiaging properties, but it is  used for wound healing and protecting the skin from the environment.

Desert  Date oil is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, making it an  interesting ingredient for skincare products. Other compounds of  interest in Desert Date include diosgenin, yamogenin, balanitoside and  balanitins.

As it is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, calcium,  magnesium, iron, copper, zinc and vitamin E, as well as being non-greasy  and easily absorbed into the skin, it may benefit many skin types.

Through  scientific investigation Desert date oil is also known to reduce the  signs of aging while also stimulating the production of collagen and  helping reduce dark spots. As it doesn’t clog pores there is interest in  its use for acne.

Beyond skincare use, Desert Date has a long  use in Ayurvedic medicine, and scientific confirmation into its use to  promote liver health and blood sugar balance. In Ayurveda, Desert Date  has been used for liver & spleen conditions, yellow fever, metabolic  disorders and syphilis.
