Allicin-Important Bioactive from Plants!

Found in Garlic, and in other Alliums, such as Onions, Leeks, Ramps, Shallots and Scallions, Allicin is the compound that gives garlic its distinctive taste and scent.

Among its health benefits:
·     Lowering cholesterol,
·     Reducing high blood pressure,
·     Boosting immunity,
·     Reducing inflammation, and
·     Cancer.

Interestingly, in a review of 39 randomized controlled trials, the regular use of garlic supplementation was found to lower people’s cholesterol levels by about 8%.

An emerging field for the use of Allicin is in gut health. There is evidence that Allicin can help normalize gut flora imbalance. Additionally, in Functional Medicine, it is increasingly being used as a herbal treatment for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
